Really enjoyed the latest release from Darren, it's a fast paced, action packed story that keeps you engaged throughout the book. As a New Zealander loved the references to New Zealand within the story, thanks Darren!!
Cryogenics, corporations running the world, and virtual reality everywhere. What's not to like? I found this to be an enjoyable story with interesting characters and plenty of action. Well worth the price of admission.
Very good sci-fi read. Interesting concepts - instant rehab of the body when injured and rebirth when one dies. Reminded me of a movie, "Starwar Troopers". If you liked the movie you will love the book!
Enjoyed this story quite a bit. The characters were enjoyable and well developed. I found it easy to follow the characters throughout unlike some stories where I am not certain as to who is saying what. In those cases I find myself back tracking a paragraph or a page just to determine who is speaking. That gets tiring. Thanks for the good read and best wishes!
This is a kind of "Cops and robbers" story. There is science involving stasis machines that send people to the future in a manner that doesn't cost them the time in stasis. This is done so people can awake after a cure is found for some disease the person might have. Problem is that it is used to store prisoners for lengthy sentences. There is also science involved with the use of an interface that allows one to spend time in fantasy land or control remote robots for the individual's convenience. The story then addresses the dangers of corruption and apathy that would occur in society because of the use of these devices. Luke comes from the past having been injured in an attack on an embassy. He's been cashiered from his job as a spy so he tries this system to get his injuries repaired and get back into his job as a field agent. He gets culture shock with regard to his move forward, and discovers that the future is not free and there is corruption. Perfect setup for him to devote his spy skills to fixing the future. This is a rather interesting story where Luke gets involved with sleuthing, finding a girl friend in typical James Bond style, blowing up things, and saving the day. From the very first sentence in the book which is garbled, and throughout the story, we have garbled sentences, wrong words, lost articles, extra articles, wrong agreement of verbs, and wrong tense of verbs.
DW has written a story line about a new invention that allows for the human body to be put in cold storage and be awaken 50 - 100 years later. One man, from MI-6 is tricked and then drugged in the early years of the 21st Century to be awaken at the beginning is the 23rd Century. The man discovers that one man has taken over the program and receives the monies the person left behind. This is an excellent read for the genre..... ER
Darren Wearmouth, the author of Fast Forward, must have been an early fan of H.G. Welles. As I started reading, it reminded me of the The Time Machine with its dystopian vision and combination of speculative future motifs and action. I liked it for its fast movement and interesting ideas of future urban development that rings feasible today. In fact this was very timely given the current political atmosphere of Brexit and recent Trump victory. As it happens, globalization becomes a bad word in this world. Large corporate entities control things in a sub rosa fashion with government subordinate to their every whim. These connections jump out to the reader and the resolution becomes prescient to our current status in the world. There is a disrupter and I won't go further and become a spoiler.
